About Darren Brulé
Darren Brulé
Hometown: High Prairie, AB
First Nation: Bigstone Cree Nation
Education: Interactive Digital Design-Music (GPRC)
Darren is the son of the late Billy Willier, a well-known guitarist in the Lesser Slave Lake area. It was his father who introduced "Country-Rock" into the bar scene in the 1950's, before Elvis found mainstream success. As a result, Darren was heavily influenced by his father's constant touring and performing growing up. So, it would only make sense that Darren would blaze his own trail, only in rap/hip-hop.
It was Darren and his former group "Full Blooded" that ignited a fire called "Native Hip-Hop" in Alberta in 1994, which eventually spread across the continent. He grew up on the Sucker Creek First Nation, and is the only award-winning hip-hop music producer from the Treaty 8 area.
Notable Achievements:
As a music producer, Darren Brule aka Ill Logikal, has produced several successful albums for his group Reddnation and as a direct result - won several Aboriginal music awards and has been nominated twice for Best Producer/Engineer. He has also given other Aboriginal artists a platform from which to launch their careers and/or has directly influenced their success:
He has also starred in three MuchFACT music video productions, and had one video produced and directed by Scott Ward/Going MILES. He is also an aspiring actor, having worked on the APTN series "Blackstone" in season one. He has also had his own music featured throughout the series. And in 2012 he appeared as an extra on the hit CBC series "Heartland".
Darren has been active in the Native Hip Hop scene since 1994. More recently, he has worked with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts in the summer of 2011 and 2012 as an instructor and mentor for Aboriginal youth in northern communities.
Darren and his wife Barb have 8 children and reside in Calgary, AB.
